Collecting vintage pens and limited editions, like other interests, can be approached from many perspectives. Vintage and rare fountain pens, the main interest of this site, were the predominate writing instruments for only a brief period--from roughly 1880 through 1960. During that time, however, their evolution reflects, and in some instances, led, changes in writing and communication, technology, materials, craftsmanship, art and culture. Fountain pens provide for broad range of expression and tactile experience in every day writing. And vintage pens are sold and traded in an international market that provides ample opportunities to meet and interact with collectors from every corner of the globe. Finally, while proving ample fodder for serious study, they are also simply fun.
We hope to provide some insight into the different perspectives that have led us, likely many others, to choose to explore, collect, discuss, and enjoy vintage pens and other rare writing instruments.
